James Randall Jones

James grew up in the Tidewater area of Virginia before coming to Blacksburg to attend Virginia Tech. After graduating in 2016 he decided to stay in the area mainly because of it’s beautiful scenery, small town charm and abundance of outdoor activities. After four years of being a planner in local government, James made a career shift to residential construction. Under the tutelage of Keelan Utzinger, owner of Mossy Springs Custom Builders, James gained invaluable experience and knowledge in the vast world of residential building. The opportunity presented itself for him to start his own company and set out on his own path (with lots of help and encouragement from Dave) so he took it by starting Mountain View Builders.

Four words to describe Dave according to James:

Math-whiz

Dave Webster

Dave was born and raised here in Blacksburg. After several years of living away from the area, he returned to the Burg and began his career in residential building. His construction experience spans twenty plus years, with nearly ten of those being with Mossy Springs Custom Builders. Through the years, Dave has seen the ins and outs of construction, whether it’s new home construction or small remodel projects. He’s developed and honed in his skills to successfully work with clients and collaborate with subcontractors. He’s gained a reputation of being a down-to-Earth, easy going conversationalist. Dave was integral in the creation and establishment of Mountain View Builders and is the reason why it exists today.

Some of Our Work

Our Process

    • Whether you reach out to us via phone call or email we try to get a sense of what your project entails and setup a time to meet to discuss further details.

    • During that initial meeting we learn more about you and your potential project and you learn more about us and how we operate as a general contractor.

    • We give a brief overview of our process and, if both parties approve, move forward with creating an initial estimate.

    • We work back and forth with our clients to create what we think is an accurate estimate. Once we’ve come to a consensus on the estimate, we then use that number for our contract.

    • For most projects we utilize a payment schedule based on various milestones. An example for a bathroom remodel project would be:

    10% Due at contract signing

    20% Due when construction begins

30% Due after rough in inspection is passed

30% Due after final inspection is passed

10% Due after project is complete and all invoices have been paid

    • We send the contract, estimate and scope of work to the client to review. If everything looks good both parties sign off. We then send an invoice for the contract signing deposit, which essentially locks the client into our project schedule.

    • Before construction starts with work closely with our clients to make all selections. We guide them through what can be a daunting process and aim to make it as easy as possible.

    • For a bathroom alone there are many decision a client must make like floor tile, wall tile, shower fixtures, toilet, vanity, mirror, paint colors, towel bars, etc. We sit down with you to review all of those items in order to make the best choice for your project. We accompany our clients to showrooms, supply them with samples, look at inspiration from other projects.

    • Our goal is to have everything picked out well before construction begins. We handle all of the ordering and coordination with suppliers.

    • Then we do the work! For some projects that means we rip everything out and build it all back.

    • And of course, we handle all of the permitting and scheduling of inspections for the project. We utilize licensed plumbers and electricians for our projects. All work gets inspected by Town building officials.

    • We warranty our work for one year. Even after that one year is up you can always reach out to us. We’re happy to help!
